Congratulations, Class of 2017

Congratulations to the Class of 2017. On Friday night, twenty-nine students walked across the platform to receive their diplomas.  This class brings the total number of graduates of Friendship Christian School to over 780. We are so very thankful for the rich heritage of FCS.

During the commencement service, valedictorian, Mary Kate Lowery, encouraged her classmates “to apply all that we have learned here to become a light in the world and a servant leader so that you may have a godly influence on the people around you.” This statement truly reflects the character of this fantastic group of seniors and reinforces the core values they have been taught at FCS. Co-salutatorians Courtney Secrist and Brandon Soemer both took time during their speeches to reflect back on the years these students have been together (seven since kindergarten and twelve for eleven or more years) and the memories they have made.

The commencement address was delivered by Pastor Mick Bowen, Senior Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Knightdale and pastor of four of this year’s graduates. Pastor Bowen’s message challenged the graduates to battle against the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – and to seek to serve the Lord in all areas of their life. He reminded them that “only what they’ve done for the Savior will matter.” And he went on to ask, “What will you do with the things that God has given you?”  As he brought his address to a close, Pastor Bowen reminded the students that they “have an ability to impact people and make a difference” with their lives. We must remember that there is a world that we don’t see, and our focus should be on that world, not this one that we do see.

What a timely and appropriate encouragement for our graduates!
