We are pleased to announce that FCS senior Aaron Walker was recently selected as a Semifinalist in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. This program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Aaron was identified as scoring among the highest one percent of the 1.5 million students nationwide who took the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and awarded semifinalist status.
As one of the talented high school seniors chosen nationwide, Aaron will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To reach the finals, the semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About ninety percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. Finalists will be announced in the spring of 2016.
