Congratulations, Class of 2016

Congratulations to the Class of 2016, the largest graduating class in Friendship Christian School history.  On Friday night, thirty-five students walked across the platform to receive their diplomas.  Valedictorian, Tyler Nelson, reflected on the years these students have spent together and the memories they have made. Our other valedictorian, Stephanie Osborn, looked to the future and encouraged the seniors to be hopeful about their future and to follow the Lord’s leading.

Our keynote speaker was The Honorable Tom Murry.  Dr. Murry currently serves as Chief Legal Counsel for Governmental Affairs for the Judicial Branch of North Carolina, working directly with Chief Justice Mark Martin to strengthen and advance the rule of law. He served two terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives serving District 41 which includes parts of Cary, Apex, and Morrisville. Prior to serving in the General Assembly, Tom was elected to two terms as an at-large member of the Morrisville Town Council. Professionally, he is an attorney and a pharmacist. Dr. Murry earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas College of Pharmacy and his Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law. Tom currently serves as a judge advocate officer in the North Carolina National Guard. Dr. Murry and his wife, Dr. Tamara Murry have two daughters that attend Friendship Christian School and a two-year old son who will be in the class of 2032 at FCS.

Dr. Murry gave the graduates an acronym to use to help them remember his challenge to them.  FROG – Fully Rely on God!  He gave them a four-step process for decision making:

Step 1 – Ask for wisdom from God – James 1:2-6

My God is always bigger than my problems.

Step 2 – Read and obey the word of God – Psalm 119:105

Obedience to revealed truth will produce guidance on unrevealed matters. Seek counsel from other believers regarding application of God’s word.

Step 3 – Love Jesus more – Philippians 1:9-11

Love the things that Jesus loves

Step 4 – Bring glory to God – 1 Corinthians 10:31-33

“The bottom line of this 4 step decision making process – be a FROG – fully rely on God. If we ask God for wisdom trusting that He gives it as He promised, consult His word, love what Jesus loves, and be motivated for God to be glorified, how can we chose the wrong thing. The answer: we cannot.”

What a tremendous reminder to always rely on God in all aspects of our lives.
