The Greatest Gift 12/15/23

Let’s cut through the tinsel and ask ourselves, “What is the Greatest Gift we can give this year?”

Forget the mall.  Forget Amazon.  Forget Macy’s.  Forget the gift cards.

What is it that we can give to those who matter in our lives that will mean the most, last the longest, and truly touch their hearts?

God’s word gives us the answer in Leviticus and I Peter ~ Be ye holy, for I am holy.”

More than anything else, our spouses, children, siblings, parents, friends, co-workers, and neighbors need us to live holy lives by following the Lord’s example.

Love them even if they are unlovely or unlovable because of His example.

Sacrifice our wants and desires to do His will to meet their needs.

Our spouses don’t need jewelry or a car – they need our unconditional love and prayers.

Our kids don’t need an iPhone.  They need our example of loving our spouse, our eye contact and attention, and our guiding hand.

They all need to see men and women who love Jesus Christ more than we love ourselves.

Of course, this gift is the most expensive one we can give because it costs our very lives.

It is much easier and cheaper to ignore their true need and instead give trinkets and the temporary than it is to die to ourselves and live for them.

What will we give this season?

What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb,
If I were a Wise Man
I would do my part,—
Yet what I can I give Him,
Give my heart.
