In Philippians 3, Paul writes:
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
When we are truly in Christ, we see everything in this life differently. The things we used to value so deeply shine a little duller.
No longer is our world upended when we are mistreated or betrayed.
We have less desire to pour our time and money into vain pursuits designed to create discontent in our lives.
We get less upset and are less prone to anger.
Much of the stress of life melts away, and we find the true source of mental health and confidence ~ we are IN CHRIST and in Him, the living Word of God, we live and move and have our being.
Quotes like the ones below underline the futility of most people’s search for happiness in the things of this world.
“The search for happiness is one of the chief sources of unhappiness.”
“There are two sources of unhappiness in life. One is not getting what you want. The other is getting it.”
This Labor Day weekend, let us, like Paul, be able to honestly say, “…I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
