Spirit Rock

FCS parents, students, staff, alumni, Friendship Baptist Church members, and Falcon fans can rent the rock. All proceeds go toward Parents of Friendship teacher appreciation events.

You can start painting at 5:00 pm the day before your rental - ie, if you reserved for Nov. 5, you can begin painting on Nov. 4 at 5:00 pm. Your design will be on display during the morning and afternoon carline, plus all day at school!

We recommend focusing on the face of the rock to really perfect your design, but you are welcome to paint the whole rock if you're ambitious and creative!

The renter is responsible to provide your own supplies and clean up. Below are some recommendations and best practices.

Painting Supplies

• Exterior latex house paint: Bring one 8 oz. outdoor "sample" can for the background base coat. (Brands like Behr or Valspar from The Home Depot or Lowe's work best).
• Outdoor spray paint: Bring 2–3 colors for large lettering, stencils, or quick-drying graphic designs.
• Acrylic paint markers: Bring heavy-duty paint pens (like Posca Paint Markers) for crisp lettering, outlines, and fine details.
• Utility paint brushes & rollers: Bring cheap foam rollers for the background and stiff utility brushes that can handle rough rock textures.

Prep & Layout Tools

• Sidewalk chalk: Bring 1–2 pieces to sketch your lettering or layout on the rock before applying permanent paint.
• Large stencils: Bring cardboard or plastic stencils for perfectly straight bubble letters, numbers, or school logos.
• Painter's tape: Bring a roll of blue tape to secure your stencils against the wind or to create clean geometric borders.
• Cardboard or drop cloth: Bring a piece of cardboard to lay on the grass around the base of the rock to prevent accidental overspray.

Cleanup & Comfort

• A jug of water: Bring water from home, as most school spirit rocks do not have a nearby water source or hose access.
• Old towels or rags: Bring heavy-duty rags to clean up drips, mistakes, or messy hands.
• Wet wipes: Bring a pack of baby wipes or heavy-duty hand wipes to clean paint off skin instantly.
• Trash bag: Bring a bag to pack out all used cans, tape, and dirty brushes, leaving the school grounds spotless.

Spirit Rock reservations are made on a no-refund policy. If there is a light drizzle, consider bringing a pop-up canopy tent to shelter the rock while you paint.

Exceptions may be made if there is severe weather (or school cancellations) and you are unable to paint. Please contact us to see if we can work out a make-up date.

You are responsible for leaving the area clean and tidy. You may be issued a small fine if the area is not cleaned up.

The date may already be reserved or unavailable due to a long school break or holiday.

Weekend dates are currently available if you want to bring your student by on their special occasion!

Not at all! Your design will stay for all to enjoy until another rental takes place.
