5 Myths About Christian Education Debunked

Are you considering Christian education for your children, but have some reservations? Let’s tackle some common misconceptions about Christian education as you explore the best school choice for your family.

Myth 1: The academics are subpar.

Friendship Christian School is a fully accredited preK-12th grade school. Our teachers’ combined education and experience equal excellent classroom instruction, a passion for instilling knowledge, and love for our students. Many FCS teachers have masters degrees and PhDs, and the school offers honors and dual credit courses for upperclassmen. Our graduates are college ready or well-prepared for the workforce, ministry, or military. FCS graduates have been accepted to universities like UNC Chapel Hill, Brown, NC State, Liberty and post-graduate programs including medicine and engineering. See more about our educational benefits and alumni successes.

Myth 2: Christian education is too expensive.

No doubt, Christian education is an investment, but we’ve seen over and over again it’s a priceless eternal investment. Further, financial assistance may be available to your family. Friendship accepts the NC Opportunity Scholarship for students who qualify and ESA+ Scholarship for students with disabilities. You could qualify for $3,000 to $7,000 toward your student’s tuition and fees at FCS. Hurry, the deadline is March 2, 2026, to apply for these scholarships!

Myth 3: Extracurriculars are lacking.

Our students, from pre-K to seniors to Focus Learning Center students, are part of one unified Falcon family. No one’s a stranger at Friendship Christian School, where there’s plenty to keep students curious, serving, and learning outside the classroom. We have robust extracurriculars, including 18 sports teams for middle and high schoolers. Our award-winning fine arts program includes annual schoolwide programs and competitions. Chapels, service projects, leadership opportunities, and the high school House system help students build character and community

"Having walked these halls as a student and now as a teacher, I have seen firsthand how education rooted in the Bible prepares students not just for college or careers, but equips them to become lifelong servants of God."
Rebekah Boehme, FCS Director of Student Life and Learning

Myth 4: The Bible should stay in Bible classrooms and churches.

At FCS, we believe the Bible isn't just a class, it's a way of life. Each subject is infused with a biblical worldview as a foundation for understanding our world, ourselves, and others. Teachers present science, math, history, literature, and more in the context of God’s purposes and order. We’re passionate about offering excellent academics infused with God’s wisdom and Word.

Myth 5: My kids won’t know how to live in a secular world.

FCS partners with families to train, disciple, and equip students to be a light in this world. We equip students to live out their faith both now and in the future, whether it’s among classmates, on the job, with neighbors, on a team, or in the home. Our faculty and staff guide students to think critically, live faithfully, and serve compassionately no matter where God calls them after graduation.

“Christian education is more than academics; it is discipleship,” says Rebekah Boehme, FCS Director of Student Life and Learning. “Having walked these halls as a student and now as a teacher, I have seen firsthand how education rooted in the Bible prepares students not just for college or careers, but equips them to become lifelong servants of God, committed to knowing Christ and making Him known.”
