His Presence, Our Path: FCS Theme Unveiled

 

“Your greatest pursuit should be God’s presence in your life.”

FCS Head of School Mr. Walden issued this vital challenge during middle school and high school chapel services last week as he discussed the theme for the 2026-2027 school year:

His Presence, Our Path

This year’s theme is based on Moses’s face-to-face encounter with God in Exodus 33. In verse 15, Moses replies to God’s promised presence, saying, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”

Moses understood the most important thing isn’t getting to a destination, but it’s getting there with God. 

“If God isn’t with us, we don’t go,” declared Mr. Walden — neither as a school nor as individual followers of Jesus.

“As Christians, we’re not just trying to figure out the path. We are trying to walk with the One who is the way.”

A Daily Pursuit 

As the new school year begins, Mr. Walden offered students four ways to prioritize walking daily in God’s presence:

Pause and pray. 

Don’t just seek the plan, but seek the Person.

Before reaching for your phone, before the noise of the world takes over, Mr. Walden modeled this simple prayer for students to start their day:

“Jesus, be my strength every day. Go with me today,
and help me represent You in everything I do.”

Open the Word. 

You can’t take God’s presence with you if you never spend time with Him.

Fill your heart and mind with His truth, which is greater than whatever the world will throw at you. As instructed in 2 Corinthians 3:18, we must behold Christ and His glory. Mr. Walden reminded students, 

“Whatever captures your attention
shapes who you become."

Live in the mess. 

When Moses came down from the mountaintop, God's people were living in confusion and disobedience.

Today, while living in the mess of this world — family and friend struggles, classroom pressures, sports, social media, difficult decisions — we can carry God’s wisdom and gentleness with us as we rely on His presence.

Follow Jesus.  

Trust God with your future, whether it’s tomorrow or five years from now. Remember Who holds your future as you make decisions about classes, college, family, friends, and long-term plans.

The ultimate goal of the Christian life isn’t discovering a roadmap, it’s knowing God personally and walking closely with Him every day. Mr. Walden

A Vision for FCS

Beyond personally following God’s presence, Mr. Walden shared his reliance on God’s leading for the next steps at Friendship Christian School. As a school, we need to know who we are, where we’re going, and how we’re going to get there.

“Reaching a destination without God is empty success,” said Mr. Walden. “We need to have a kingdom vision, not a worldly one.” 

Following God means avoiding the drift of popular culture or glorying in status, titles, or recognition. Friendship’s mission of pointing every student to Jesus Christ, teaching from a biblical worldview, and developing each student’s God-given potential informs the school's kingdom vision of:

• Scholarly excellence with a firm foundation in biblical truth.
   
• Critical thinking to equip students to evaluate culture through Scripture.
   
• Faithful living and service demonstrating Christ’s love through compassionate, humble action in the community.
   
• Presence-driven leadership, ensuring all decisions and programs reflect the guidance of Jesus.

“We must be Christ-centered as we teach, coach, and lead, letting God’s presence guide us.” As chapel concluded, Mr. Walden left students with this:

My prayer for each of you is to have a kingdom vision. And when you leave here, take Jesus with you.
