FCS Junior Reaches 1000-Point Milestone

Hard-working, dedicated, talented . . .  All of these words, along with humble, gracious and kind describe junior forward Brandon Soemer.  Brandon has been playing basketball at Friendship since sixth grade and began playing at the varsity level in ninth grade.  This season Brandon reached a milestone not many players reach – he scored his 1,000th point.   Brandon has averaged 16.1 points per game and reached this milestone during his 62nd varsity game, a home game against Bethel Christian Academy on February 9, 2016.

Coach Ric Nelson commented, “I’m proud of Brandon for reaching this milestone. It is a testament of his teammates and his hard work. I am excited to see if he can take his game to another level for his senior year.”

Brandon’s teammates describe him as a player who encourages those around him by his positive outlook.  One player mentioned that Brandon is never negative and is a great teammate because of the way he encourages his teammates.  While he is the leading scorer, he is also described by several of his teammates as being an unselfish player who puts the team’s goals above his personal goals.  He plays hard and shows great discipline over his emotions.

As president of the junior class and a member of the National Honor Society, Brandon demonstrates his leadership abilities both on the court and in the classroom.

While Brandon is passionate about basketball, his deepest passion is his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Brandon wears a bracelet that says “In Jesus’ Name I Play” which sums up his desire to put Christ first in all he does.

“I want to thank my coaches for never giving up on me as well as my teammates for always encouraging me.  Most of all, I’m thankful to God for allowing me to play basketball,” said Soemer.

Brandon would like to play college basketball, but is undecided as to where at this time.

Congratulations, Brandon on this milestone in your basketball career!
